Matthew Duckworth
I was briefly in the same chambers as John in the early 90s. Among other things, we “understood each other” because I had been educated at a Benedictine school. He was one of the most effortlessly engaging and yet erudite men I have ever met. He was also a master storyteller (particularly ghost stories!). I wish I had managed to keep up with him. As a confirmed atheist now, I like to think that if I am wrong, he will be at the gate when I arrive and say “oh you can let this guy in, he’s alright”.
